Instruction Design

Domain: Prompt Engineering

🎯 Motivation

How you phrase the instruction matters. Clear, specific, well-structured instructions get far better results than vague ones.

📋 Concrete Example

Vague: ‘Write about climate change.’ Better: ‘Write a 200-word essay about climate change for 14-year-olds. Cover: causes, effects, and 3 things students can do. Use simple language.’

🔗 Analogy

A recipe vs ‘make something tasty’ - a recipe with exact ingredients and steps (well-designed instruction) produces a reliable result. ‘Make something tasty’ (vague instruction) is a gamble.
