Latency in Networks

Domain: Computer Systems

🎯 Motivation

How long data takes to travel from source to destination. Lower latency = faster response.

📋 Concrete Example

Latency: Hong Kong to Tokyo server: 30ms (fast). Hong Kong to New York: 200ms (slower). Data travels at light speed through cables, but distance still matters.

🔗 Analogy

Latency is like travel time - a letter to your neighbor arrives in 1 minute (low latency). A letter to New York takes days (high latency). Network latency is travel time for data.
